The Willemsfonds archives, submitted by the Willemsfonds
The extensive archive of the Willemsfonds (about 350 linear metres) has been almost completely preserved since its foundation in 1851 and is kept at Liberas (Kramersplein 23 in Ghent).
It is very special that the archive has been preserved from the foundation of the association in 1851 until today.
Thanks to this wealth of historical material, a faithful picture can be painted of all aspects of the operation of the Willemsfonds. It is a source par excellence for those who want to know more about the history of the association, especially in relation to the Flemish Movement and the secular humanist and liberal idea.
But the historical archive of the Willemsfonds is much more than that: it is particularly interesting for those who carry out research into folk education and training, library and publishing, folk singing or club life in Flanders.
