EXHIBITIONS
Poster of the first edition of Pukkelpop (1985), promotional video Grenzeloos jong-vakantie (2011), Do the Hujo Shake (2013) and the old corporate identity (embodied by a backpack and old promotional materials), submitted by Hujo (Humanistische Jongeren)
Hujo (short for “Humanistische Jongeren”, or “Humanist Youths”) has been committed to secular and humanist youth work in Flanders and Brussels since 1968. The founders stated in their statutes that they wanted to independently "develop secular youths through discussion, leisure, cultural and sports activities and to develop and disseminate the humanist spirit". From the very beginning Hujo has had a strong aversion to racism, has striven for world peace and has defended core democratic values. The umbrella organisation brings together various local groups and initiatives (children's and youth organisations, youth centres, socio-cultural groups, etc.).
In 1985, the chapter in Leopoldsburg with a.o. Chokri Mahassine started an alternative music festival. Pukkelpop soon grew into one of the biggest festivals in Flanders.
Hujo celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2018 and has had a new look and feel since September 2017. A lot of memories are attached to the old design, which has been given a place in the time capsule.
Watch the videos (the promotional video “Grenzeloos jong-vakantie” and Do the Hujo Shake), which clearly illustrate the enthusiasm of the children and youths. Be sure to pay attention to the soundtrack of Mira in “Grenzeloos jong”, which fits in perfectly with Hujo. According to Hujo, the Hujo Shake is "perhaps [their] craziest moment in recent years"!
