Posters Meedenken met het rijksonderwijs and Vrijzinnig? Omdat wij het menen met andermans mening, submitted by deMens.nu (Unie Vrijzinnige Verenigingen – UVV)
In 1987 and 1988 UVV launched several poster campaigns. The association presented a poster on the occasion of the well-attended congress “Meedenken met het rijksonderwijs” (“Thinking along with public education”). Greetje, the girl on the poster, is surrounded by piles of books. She taught us that fun lessons were given in public education. For Greetje, who loved to learn and learned a lot, that was a good thing.
Education was an important theme for secular humanists in Flanders. The congress and the posters supported public education.
A second campaign, “Vrijzinnig? Omdat wij het menen met andermans mening” (“Secular humanist? Because we’re serious about other people's opinions”), tried to make humanism better known to the general public. It was a campaign on a grand scale: the posters of children with cuddly toys appeared in the written press and in public places, such as the metro.
Today, the models in the pictures have reached their majority. Hopefully they are still telling people what they want and hopefully they are still being listened to.
