Booklet PERIOD. TIME for CHanGE (2017), submitted by the Universitair Centrum voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (UCOS)
The Universitair Centrum voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (UCOS – “University Centre for Development Cooperation”) is committed to strengthening global citizenship competencies among students in higher education.
This was reflected in the CHanGE project, the Campaign for Sexual Health & Gender Equality. As part of this project 12 committed and enthusiastic young people, CHanGEmakers, travelled to India, DR Congo and Uganda in the summer of 2017.
In 2017 the focus was on taboos and stigmas about menstrual hygiene. The Period campaign wanted to make menstruation a topic of discussion and fought for affordable access to (sustainable) menstrual products such as sanitary towels, tampons and menstrual cups. The accompanying booklet - the first publication of the CHanGEmakers - offered, on the basis of the visits, stories of strong organisations and activists.
UCOS launched the project in 2017 and trained the young people to become CHanGEmakers who take initiative in the fight for a gender-equal world. This booklet was their first publication and gave an overview of the fascinating stories that inspired them to compe up with the Period campaign. The commitment and enthusiasm of the CHanGEmakers proved to be key to the success of the project.
