30 years of KBS – medallion and codex of the anniversary cantus, submitted by the Kring der Brusselse en Brabantse Studenten (KBS)
On 18 March 1988, Frank ‘Dolf’ Taildeman deposited the articles for a new student association at the Brussels Studentengenootschap (BSG): the Kring der Brusselse en Brabantse Studenten (“Student Association of Students from Brussels and Brabant” – KBS). In the academic year 1988-1989 the association was launched, with Dolf as its first praeses. From the beginning, however, the student association had members from all corners of Flanders, because ‘everyone who studies in Brussels becomes a bit of a citizen of Brussels’ (Hans Van de Casseye, pro-senior 1999-2000 and 2001-2002, in “De geschiedenis van 15 jaar Kring der Brusselse Studenten”).
At the first baptism 10 prospects were present, but soon KBS grew into a very active regional circle. In 1990-1991 they took over the organisation of Master Blaster from the Wase Rapen (a student association for students from the Waasland region). Over the years, the activity has grown into an annual phenomenon. And in 2001 KBS won the Vrijzinnig Zangfeest (a secular humanist song contest for student associations at the VUB) with the song “Verbroedering in Brussel”.
In 2013 KBS received an honorary diploma from the Orde van de Vrienden van Manneken Pis (the “Order of the Friends of Manneken Pis”). Since then Manneken Pis owns a KBS costume (no. 899 in his wardrobe).
